KYUK reaches fundraising goal

by KYUK Staff on October 13, 2013

With four days left in the annual Fall Fundraiser KYUK members have pushed the public radio station over it’s fundraising goal of $20,000. This year’s goal was the most ambitious in over well over two decades. KYUK’s Radio Director Shane Iverson says achieving the lofty goal proves Y/K Delta residents value their public radio station. “We’re deeply humbled by all the giving. It shows us listeners appreciate what we’ve been doing to improve local broadcasting.”

This year it took less than two weeks to reach the goal, four days less than KYUK projected. “Part of the reason we got there so fast was the giving by local businesses; giving we never anticipated” says Iverson. Several small businesses like ArXotica and Casey’s Carpet donated gifts to KYUK which the station used for “Hot Drawings”, a short, one-time period of pledging which allowed pledgers to join a drawing for that item. “Whether it was a drawing for Baba’s Pizza, or a massage from Anne’s Physical Therapy, our listener’s enjoyed being part of the excitement.”

KYUK will keep the fundraiser open so people can can continue to enter the grand prize drawing, earn their KYUK incentive gifts, and lend their support to public broadcasting. “We know some people still plan on pledging their support. We don’t want to take that away from them. And we’ve already got some great ideas for any unexpected revenue that we’re gifted.”

Among the leading ideas is purchasing new equipment to improve remote broadcasts. That was the same movtiation behhind KYUK’s recently announced competition Village Showdown 2013; a pledging competition that will land the winning community a hometown broadcast of their high school basketball game.

Pledging for The Showdown ends Tuesday October 15 at 11:59 AM. The grand prize drawing will be held the following day, October 16 at about 8:45 AM.
