Legal nets given away by CVRF

by Sophie Evan on June 28, 2012

Kuskokwim River subsistence fishers have had to comply with new restrictions this summer. Several fishers have been cited for violating the rules and had their nets seized. 21 nets were seized June 20, when several villages fished in protest of a 12-day closure. The regional CDQ group, Coastal Villages Region Fund, or C-V-R-F, stepped in to help, at the urging of the Association of Village Council Presidents. C-V-R-F gave away one hundred six inch mesh nets to fisherman here in Bethel last week.
