Lime Village fire over 150,000 acres

by Angela Denning-Barnes on June 25, 2013

The large wildfire burning near Lime Village in the upper Kuskokwim area continues to grow although dense smoke has complicated aerial surveying the last few days.

According to a written report from the state’s Division of Forestry, several fire crews including 56 firefighters are working on improving the fire break between the southern edge of the fire and Lime Village. Lime Village is on the south bank of Stony River. The fire break lies between the north bank of the river and the fire which is several miles farther north.

An attempt to monitor the fire from the air on Sunday was thwarted by dense smoke. The last total acreage calculation was taken on June 22 and showed the fire at 152,670 acres.
