Local wrestlers compete at Nationals

Two elementary Bethel wrestlers, Kaden Westlake and Hayden Lieb, competed in with other Alaska wrestlers in Idaho recently at the West Kids Regional meet.  They competed in all three styles- Folkstyle, Greco Roman and Freestyle. The meet drew wrestlers from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

 

Kaden Westlake, a novice in the 140 pounds and over class, took third place

 

and Hayden Lieb a novice in the 85 pound class both participated in, along The top 6 kid’s in each of the weight classes were awarded medals and the results that both Kaden and Hayden competed in are as listed. For the Folkstyle tournament which is a traditional style of wrestling the results are:

 

In the novice 85 pound class- Alaska’s Hayden Lieb who’s place is unknown in the event but has scored 7.00 team points and in the novice 140 pound and over class- Alaska’s Kaden Westlake placed 3rd and has scored 6.00 team points.

 

And the results from the Greco Roman tournament which is a style of wrestling practiced worldwide but forbids holds below the waist are:

 

Novice 85 pounds class- Alaska’s Hayden Lieb who placed unknown in the event but has scored 6.00 team points.

And in the novice 140 pounds and over class- Alaska’s Kaden Westlake placed 3rd and has scored 6.00 team points.

 

And the results for the freestyle tournament which is a style of wrestling practiced worldwide which the goal is to throw and pin your opponent to the mat and in which you are allowed to use the legs in offence or defense are:

 

In the novice 85 pound class- Alaska’s Hayden Lieb who’s place is unknown in the event but has scored 12.00 team points.

In the novice 140 pounds and over class- Alaska’s Kaden Westlake placed 3rd and has scored 6.00 team points.

 

After the regionals, the boys that represent the Bethel Freestyle Wrestling club traveled to Orem, Utah to compete in the 2013 ASICS/Kids National Tournament where the top 8 placers are identified as All-Americans. 37 different States were represented. Westlake had the same 4 in his weight class from the West Regional and Lieb had some of the same and other competitors from around the country, 17 total in his brackets. Freestyle and Greco Roman were the only styles wrestled. And here are the Greco Roman results:

In the novice 140 pound and over class- Alaska’s Kaden Westlake placed 3rd in the event and scored 5.50 team points.

 

And the results for the Freestyle tournament are:

 

In the novice 85 pounds class- Alaska’s Hayden Lieb Who’s place is unknown but has scored 0.00 team points.

In the novice 140 pound and over class- Alaska’s Kaden Westlake placed 3rd in the event and scored 6.00 team points.

 

Congratulations to both of these boys. Westlake’s records for these events are 5 wins and 10 losses. He is recognized as an All-American by placing 3rd in his Greco and Freestyle brackets respectively.

And Lieb’s record is 7 wins and 10 losses in these events.
