Governor Sean Parnell has amended the spring flood disaster declaration to include villages in the Lower Yukon Regional Educational Attendance Area. The previous declaration included Interior villages only.

Parnell made the amendment today. According to a written statement from his office, the amendment adds the lower villages including Emmonak and Alakanuk because they also suffered damages. It states that the area experienced prolonged flooding due to ice jams and high water from excessive run-off as a result of the rapid late season warm-up.

The governor’s amendment will make disaster assistance programs available for the additional areas, both for public entities and individuals.

The State and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are continuing to conduct damage assessments in the affected communities to determine the extent of the damages and the potential for federal assistance.
