Lynden transportation buys Northland Services

A barging company has sold out to another transportation service. The tug and barge company, Northland Services, has been bought by Lynden Transportation.

In a press release, Lynden, a family of transportation companies serving Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, say they have signed a purchase agreement to buy Northland Services, which is also a tug and barge carrier serving Alaska and Hawaii from Seattle.

President and CEO for Northland says there has been significant growth in the past ten years and that joining the two companies will improve and expand services.

Lynden Chairman Jim Jansen said they are excited about the ability to provide an integrated service to Alaska, with more barge schedules. Jansen says a lengthy and complicated process of transferring ownership remains before the sale is a done deal. The companies plan to close out the purchase transaction in late 2013.

Northland will continue to operate independently within Lynden and retain its current management staff.
