by Mark Arehart on January 16, 2013

Alaska State Troopers say an alleged assault took place in the village Lower Kalskag. On January 11th, troopers arrested 33-year-old Gregory Nickolas for allegedly strangling a family member.

Troopers say Nickolas is also accused of making threatening phone calls.

Nickolas has two previous assault convictions and an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear for arraignment on a previous assault charge.

Troopers say Gregory also gave officers a false name.

He was arrested and transported to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel.

Troopers say alcohol was a factor in the case.
