Man brandishes shotgun at Bethel hotel

by Mark Arehart on January 29, 2013

Bethel Police say a man walked into the Bethel Longhouse Hotel Saturday night with a shotgun, placing employees in fear.

Police say the employees managed to lock themselves in a backroom and call 911, while a man–24-year-old Thomas Amik of Bethel–escaped on foot.

Amik was apprehended near 3rd and Main Street without incident.

He was booked into the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel. He is charges with misconduct involving a weapon and two counts of assault in the third degree.

No one was injured in the incident and police say they do not suspect alcohol as being a factor.
