A Bethel man is facing felony charges for allegedly stealing money from the safe at Subway. 29-year-old Peter Joel Long has been arrested following a police investigation.

Bethel Police responded Monday morning to the Subway restaurant on the report that someone had broken in and taken over $2,000 from the safe. The manager told police that a security camera had been turned away and that there was damage in the bathroom.

The manager said that only two people know the safe combination: herself and Long.

Police that morning received a tip that Long was about to board a flight and leave town. They met him at the Era terminal before he boarded a flight to Anchorage. According to court documents, he then admitted to stealing money from the safe and said he was threatened into stealing the money by a friend. According to a police affidavit, Long stated that he gave the friend all of the envelopes of cash except one.

Long is facing charges for 2nd degree burglary and theft over $500. Both are class C felonies. His next court hearing is December 13th.
