Man charged with murder in death of Hooper Bay woman

33-year-old David Hoelscher, of Hooper Bay has been charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of a village woman.

“A local VPSO had responded to Hoelscher’s residence and located 27-year-old Pauline man deceased inside that residence,” said Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters.

A trooper affidavit said the two were in a relationship.

According to records, the couple’s 9-year-old daughter says Hoelscher became angry with Mann and began punching and kicking her Sunday evening.

The girl said her mother was not breathing on Monday morning.

The affidavit said Hoelscher said he thought he killed Mann while he was drunk.

Mann’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy.

Next of kin has been notified.
