Marijuana arrests made at airports

Two separate arrests were made for smuggling drugs on airplanes to YK Delta villages.

On May 5th, officers with Alaska State Troopers’ Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team contacted a couple at a Bethel Air Carrier as they awaited a flight to Kwethluk.

Officers seized 3.9 ounces of marijuana from a female traveler. She is charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 4th degree.

On May 16th Troopers, along with the Barrow Police Department, contacted a 28-year-old male traveling to Aniak with his 2-year-old-son at the Anchorage Airport. Troopers seized 3.7 ounces of marijuana from a backpack.

Charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree have been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.
