Michael Williams Jr. takes 23rd in Iditarod

by Angela Denning-Barnes on March 13, 2013

Mike Williams Jr. crossed beneath the burled arch in Nome at 4:57 p.m. Wednesday to claim 23rd place in the 1,000 mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race. He had to fight some of the same challenges as his fellow musher Pete Kaiser did: hot weather and sick dogs. The 27-year-old from Akiak said his team turned around and started to perform better later in the race. He was also happy to be on the race trail with his father, Mike Williams Sr. who is also competing. Stay tuned to KYUK news for more on his race.
