Mike Williams Jr. wins Bethel 50 miler

Mike Williams Jr. of Akiak beat out 13 other teams in a 50 mile sled dog race in Bethel, Feb. 16. The race was sponsored by the K300 race committee and took place on the Kuskokwim River, starting and finishing in Bethel.

Mike Williams Jr. took home $1,000 for the win. He was followed in by Randy Nose in 2nd place, Lewis Pavilla in 3rd, Gilbert Phillip in 4th and Steve Olive in 5th.

It was an 8-dog limit race with a $5,300 purse, paid out to 10 places.

Now, Williams is gearing up to race in the 1,000 mile Iditarod sled dog race, which starts March 3. Last year, he finished 8th place in the Iditarod.
