A 29-year-old man with ties to the Y-K Delta has been charged with sexually abusing a girl at an Anchorage church. David Chiklak, originally from Mountain Village, was arrested Sunday outside a church in the Mountain View neighborhood on the city’s northeast side, according to the Associated Press.

A woman told Anchorage police she was in a bathroom with a girl at the church and heard someone call the child out of the room. The woman a short time later heard the girl crying in the men’s bathroom.

Police say she entered the men’s bathroom and saw a man with his belt unbuckled standing over the girl.

Witnesses detained Chiklak in the parking lot of the church until police arrived.

He’s charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Police say Chiklak was not a member of the church but attended a service with others.

Chiklak Chilkak’s criminal history includes convictions for assault and criminal trespass, as well as a 2006 conviction in Bethel for sexual abuse of a minor that was amended to misdemeanor harassment after he pleaded no contest. Most charges went through the Saint Mary’s Court.

Anchorage Police believe there could be more victims of Chiklak and are asking anyone with information to contact the at 907-786-2628.
