New business ideas welcome in competition

by Angela Denning-Barnes on July 10, 2012

The Y-K Delta’s competition Best in the West is seeking to help fund local entrepreneurs so they can make their business ideas a reality. The competition gives away start up money for people who have good ideas, but don’t have initial start up funds to get it going, says Cultural Center Coordinator, Reyne Athanas.

The deadline to submit project proposals is July 13. Forms can be picked up at the cultural center or on-line. There is a workshop at the cultural center with free help in filling these applications out which runs through July 11 this week.

Finalists will be announced by July 20. In August, there will be a finalists’ workshop at the cultural center for applicants to fine tune their proposals.

The final presentations of the projects will be given in person August 31 in front of the selection committee. The committee is made up of representatives from the competition’s partners.

Partners funding the competition this year include:
The Kuskokwim Campus
Bethel Community Services Foundation
Orutsararmuit Native Council
Donlin Gold
Calista
Bethel Native Corporation
Association of Village Council Presidents
