The 47-year-old Bethel man has not been seen or heard from since December 17. Search and Rescue got word on December 22nd and began searching fish camps by old airport and in nearby villages.

Because the search is within five miles of town, Bethel police are in charge of the investigation. Andre Achee is the Bethel Police Lieutenant. He says they are conducting interviews.

“We’re hoping someone might have seen him or knows where he may be at. He usually stays at a camp across at the old airport island,” said Achee.

That’s where he was last seen, and where he was living full time. Mike Riley is chief of Bethel Search and Rescue.

“We did an all day search of the while island, all the trails, all the fish camps, checking thoroughly around. So far there was nothing turned up at all,” said Riley.

30 searchers have been involved in recent days. An examination of his cabin made it appear he had plans to stay nearby. He for example had a supply of meat.

Searchers have covered the island across from Bethel, many nearby fish camps, and trails towards Akiachak. Crews from Napakiak, Napaskiak, Kwethluk, and Oscarville have checked out their areas but have no leads.
BSAR says say Michaels may have been a black down jacket and black snow pants, a white baseball cap along with a black beanie cap, and brown boots.

If anyone has any information to share, they should call search and rescue at 545-4357 or the police at 543-3781.
