ADFG Announces Year's First Yukon Fall Chum Commercial Opening, District 2

Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced this year’s first fall chum commercial fishing opening on the Yukon River, District Two. The six-hour opening will run from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20. Gillnets are restricted to six-inch or smaller mesh size. Set gillnets cannot exceed 150 fathoms, or 900 feet. Drift gillnets cannot exceed 50 fathoms, or 300 feet.

Subsistence salmon fishing in District Two is closed from 12 hours before until 12 hours after the commercial opening. Subsistence salmon fishing will close at 2 a.m. Wednesday, July 20 and will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 21.

Subsistence fishermen may use four-inch or smaller mesh size gillnets to target non-salmon species during the subsistence salmon closure. Set gillnets cannot exceed 150 fathoms, or 900 feet. Drift gillnets cannot exceed 50 fathoms, or 300 feet.
