Bethany Harbison Appointed As 2018 Presiding Judge Of Alaska's Fourth Judicial District

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta has a new Presiding Judge. 

Superior Court Judge Bethany Harbison has been appointed as Presiding Judge of the Fourth Judicial District. The area includes most of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta and Fairbanks. The Alaska Supreme Court announced the appointment as part of the process of appointing Presiding Judges for each of Alaska’s Judicial Districts for 2018.

In her new position, Judge Harbison will continue her duties as a Fairbanks Superior Court Judge while taking on the administrative responsibilities of a Presiding Judge. Those responsibilities include supervising case assignments throughout the district, managing daily court operations and budgets, and making sure trial courts meet statewide court objectives and policies.

Judge Harbison has been serving as the Fairbanks Superior Court Judge since 2012. Before that appointment, she worked as an assistant public defender and as a magistrate judge.

Other 2018 Presiding Judge appointments include Superior Court Judge Trevor N. Stephens for the First Judicial District, Superior Court Judge Paul A. Roetman for the Second Judicial District, and Superior Court Judge William F. Morse for the Third Judicial District.
