Bethel Police Investigate Alleged Kidnapping And Illegal Marijuana Grow

The Bethel Police Department discovered an illegal marijuana grow while they were investigating a kidnapping.

The Bethel Police Department is investigating the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor. The crime was reported by a 14-year-old girl, though Acting Police Chief Burke Waldron would not confirm whether she was also the alleged victim.

According to a report the Bethel Police filed with the City Council on Tuesday, the girl reported the incident to law enforcement on January 17. The report adds that officers discovered an illegal marijuana grow in the Slough area through the course of their kidnapping investigation. Chief Waldron would not confirm whether there was any connection between the alleged attack and the drugs.

The Bethel Police turned the marijuana grow over to the Alaska State Troopers. Their investigation of the kidnapping and sexual assault is ongoing.
