Bethel Search and Rescue President Mike Riley says that last week's meeting was a big success in more ways than one. Riley was re-elected as BSAR president; Treasurer Bertha Chase and Secretary Donna Riley were also re-elected.

Hugh Snyder stepped down as Vice President; nominated to replace him were Perry Barr, Fritz Charles, and John Wassilie, with Barr winning the post.

Following the election and a potluck, the Lions Club presented BSAR with a brand new snowmobile.

“Thanks to Bethel Lions Club,” Riley said last Friday. “They purchased us a brand new 600 Ski-Doo.”

Riley extends his thanks to all of those throughout Bethel and the Y-K Delta who support BSAR. He also thanks the volunteers themselves.

“For them taking time away from their families to make other people safe. Working together [so] others can live is our slogan,” said Riley.

Riley also had an update on travel conditions, saying that right now the river ice conditions are a little rough with the slush, so to take care and drive slow. He cautions Kuskokwim ice road drivers to check the tides. With high tides contributing to water overflow, the best time to travel is during low tide.
