The City of Bethel’s newly hired Assistant Finance Director was let go after just two weeks on the job.

Abel Mangieb was hired on February 19 and terminated on Friday, March 2.

“There were some things that were brought to our attention that caused us some concern,” said Keith Henthorn, the City of Bethel’s Human Resources Manager. “A further investigation led us to [err on] the side of caution and he was escorted out of the building.”

Henthorn went to further clarify that Mangieb was not charged or arrested with anything by the Bethel Police Department.

“When you’re dealing with people that are in finance that is a fairly common thing, once things are brought to your attention, that you don’t give them access to the computers systems, the finance system, et cetera,” Henthorn said.

The position of Assistant Finance Director (Comptroller) is back up on the city’s job listings.
