Community Event On Heroin And Opioid Use In Bethel Monday

FBI

The Department of Justice has named this week National Heroin and Opioid Awareness Week. It’s a week to educate the public on the effects of heroin and opioid abuse and give people information to help them stop the epidemic.

Tonight in Bethel the U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, and local law enforcement are holding a community event on the topic at Bethel City Hall. The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with a screening of the documentary film Chasing the Dragon produced by the FBI and DEA on heroin and opioid addiction. The groups will hold a community discussion on the issue around 6:30 p.m. KYUK will broadcast the discussion live.

The group will visit Bethel schools that morning to talk with students about heroin and opioid addiction.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, and DEA are holding similar community events around rural Alaska throughout the month.

Anna Rose MacArthur served as KYUK's News Director from 2015-2022.
