Emmonak To Hold A Redo Vote On Local Option Law

Emmonak City Council is holding a redo vote on whether or not to change the dry village’s local option law.

The council voided the ballots from last week’s special election after too many questioned ballots invalidated the vote. The slim margin of 133 “yes” votes to 122 “no” votes means that the dozens of ballots submitted by unregistered voters could have altered the results. The council will hold another vote on October 4.

The other measure on the ballot to increase the city sales tax from three percent to four percent passed with a wide enough margin to negate any influence that the questioned ballots might have had. The tax increase will take effect September 1.
