The family of Michael Chris is offering a $25,000 reward for any information that could help the police identify a suspect in his death.

“He was the only son I had,” said Julie Carter, Chris’ mother. “We heard from Officer Davis that there was progress being made, but we felt like as a family we needed to do something.”

Chris died on January 31, 2017 from a gunshot wound to the head. At first the Bethel Police Department considered his death to be a suicide, but the Chris family insisted that foul play might be involved. The police now consider the circumstances surrounding Chris’ death to be suspicious, and their investigation is ongoing.

“We miss Michael terribly,” said Carter. “Our hearts are broken. We try to go through the day as normally as we can.”

If you have information on this case, please contact Sgt. Amy Davis at (907) 543-3781. Callers will need to provide the dispatcher with their names and contact information, as well as Chris’ case number (1701508). Once the dispatcher receives that information, callers will be transferred to a secure voice messaging system where they can provide their statement.

Chris’ family is also accepting donations to their reward fund. KYUK listeners can transfer funds into Alaska USA account 4604177 if they would like to contribute.
