Former Bethel Police Officer Andrew Reid has been sentenced for assault after a 2014 altercation with Wassillie Gregory of Bethel.

Reid will serve up to 120 days in custody after pleading guilty to one count of fourth degree assault, and one count of first degree official misconduct.

A video of the assault first surfaced on KYUK’s website, and showed Mr. Reid repeatedly throwing the victim to the ground before pepper spraying him.

Gregory, who was intoxicated at the time, was left with a dislocated shoulder that later required surgery to fix.

Gregory received a settlement of $175,000 in a civil lawsuit. After today's hearing, his sister Agnes Gregory said that the money has largely fueled her brother's drinking problem.

During the proceedings Reid made an apology to the victim, who was not present. Agnes Gregory said that she forgave Reid for the harm he had done to her brother.

Reid will be remanded to his sentence in no more than five months, at which time his attorney says he hopes to apply for electronic monitoring so that Reid can serve his sentence in his own home.
