The Maximum rates that taxicabs can charge passengers traveling to the airport and Tundra Ridge have gone up. It’s now a dollar more. The rate to Kasayuli went up by $2, and chartered cabs also saw an increase.

The City Council passed the increase on Tuesday night after some re-drafting following its prior meeting. Jared Karr of the Public Safety and Transportation Commission told the Council at the previous meeting that the increase would not keep up with inflation.

“In the grand scheme of things, this rate increase is far below what has happened over the past 11 years,” said Karr.

Rides within the city will not see an increase, and remain at $5.

The ordinance also increases the cost of a cab permit from $180 a month to $200.

The vote in favor was four to two, with Mayor Richard Robb and Vice Mayor Fred Watson in opposition.
