Mitchell Forbes is continuing his campaign for a ballot proposition to return Bethel to a local option liquor community and open a city-run liquor store.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, council member Forbes announced that he would submit the paperwork for a citizen-led petition the next day if Council voted down the proposition introduction. Council did vote it down, but Forbes had not submitted the necessary paperwork by the end of Wednesday. Instead he picked it up from the City Clerk's office.

"I’ve drafted the ballot proposition, the wording that would appear on the ballot should we get the necessary signatures,” Forbes said Wednesday evening. "So at this point I'm working on gathering petition sponsors."

Those sponsors are nine Bethel voters who will commit to helping collect the 248 signatures needed to put the proposition on the ballot.

Forbes said that he plans to find the sponsors and submit the paperwork by Monday at the latest.
