In areas of the state where the cash economy is limited, but the cost of living high, the Permanent Fund Dividend is especially important to many households. But even in those places, dividend recipients generously share the wealth by donating to non-profits, and that time has come again.
On Thursday, March 1, local non-profits and the Alaska Community Foundation are holding rallies in nine communities to support the Pick.Click.Give. Program, which enables Alaskans applying for their dividend online to allocate part or all of their Permanent Fund Dividend to non-profits approved by the program.
The Bethel rally will happen from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at Watson’s Corner. Organizers point out that local giving is especially important in times of declining state and federal spending.
