Bethel Regional High School’s basketball teams played their first games of the season last weekend.

The boys team crushed their competition, winning each game by at least 20 points and earning first place in Sitka’s Holiday Shootout. The Warriors dusted the Nikiski Bulldogs on Thursday with a score of 58 to 38. They crushed the Sitka Wolves on Friday with a score of 70 to 41. Houston fared even worse against them, losing by 40 points on Saturday with a lopsided 52 to 12 final score.

The Warriors’ offense burned up the court last weekend, and Darrell Garrison and John Fredericks each scored up to 20 points a game. Clevon Constantine was voted the tournament’s MVP.

For the Bethel’s girls team, the competition was fiercer. On Thursday, the Lady Warriors narrowly lost to the Ketchikan Lady Kings by a score of 48 to 57. The next day they lost to Sitka 58 to 26, but the team rallied on Saturday and annihilated Houston with a score of 71 to 22 in almost a 50-point lead.

The Lady Warriors came out of the shootout with a third place finish. Katie Crow was voted one of the best all-offensive players in the tournament and Courtney Williams was voted one of the best defensive players. Williams was also the weekend’s Ladies Hot Shot Contest winner.
