Problems with ANCSA addressed at tribal summit

An Alaska inter tribal summit was held last week at the Egan Convention Center in Anchorage. The goal was to continue work on amending ANCSA or the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, which is recognized as having some major problems when it was signed into law in 1971. Mike Williams Sr. of Akiak, summit spokesperson, said they looked at a new issue regarding the federal government consulting with regional corporations on the same basis as tribes.
