The 65-mile long Akiak Dash attracted 12 local mushers this year. Randy Noes of Akiachak came in first, over 20-minutes ahead of the second place fininsher, Joshua Evan. This year’s field ranged in age from 65-year old elder Melvin Egoak of Atmautluak, to 14-year old Joan Klejka of Bethel.
Of the three races this weekend, the Akiak dash had a mass start. There were 12 teams that took off all at once, and that is just about how they arrived six hours later. Randy Noes ran the 65 mile course in five hours and 57-minutes, and for his efforts R-N Kennels earned three thousand three hundred ($3,300) dollars. Here he is at the finish line.

A half hour later, Joshua Evan of Napaskiak arrived to take the 2nd place spot.

Evan took home two thousand two hundred ($2,200) dollars. The third and fourth place finishers came in within minutes of each other, John Simon of Bethel 3rd, and Atmautluak’s elder Melvin Egoak 4th.

23-year old Cameron Jackson rounded out the top five finishers, he is from Akiachak.

The rest of the Akiak Dash field finished as follows; 6th – Herman Phillip , 7th Joshua Klejka, 8th Anthony Olick, 9th Caleb Miller, Edward Nicholai came in 10th, and Joan Klejka took the red lantern. Alexie Jacob of Napaskiak scratched outbound in Akiachak.
