Randy Nose rides a sizable lead to take the Akiak Dash.

At right around 8pm this evening, Randy Nose crossed the finish line to seal his victory in the 2013 Akiak Dash.

Randy Nose is running dogs for Ray Nose. This marks the third straight Akiak Dash win for the kennel.

Ray says the team racked up a lot of miles this year as the kennel was vying for a spotin the Bogus Creek 150 field. The poor trail conditions earlier in the year prevented Nose from getting quite enough miles for that race. But, all that training has more than paid off with this year’s Akiak Dash win.

Randy Nose said the toughest part of the race was the competition breathing down his neck from “here to Akichak” in the beginning of the race. Nose was able to separate himself from the pack just before the turnaround near Akiak.

Joshua Evan finished second, crossing the line unofficially at 8:30pm.

55-year-old John Simon took third. He said the way upriver was rough and tiring. “It was hard, but I made it,” Simon said.

Cameron Jackson finished fourth and Herman Phillip took fifth.
