Rita Pitka Blumenstein on ‘Healing the Spirit from the Light Within,’ Monday, July 25

The recent gathering of the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers honored Grandmother Rita Pitka Blumenstein.

On Monday, July 25th from 11-noon, KYUK will broadcast a special segment featuring Rita Pitka Blumenstein’s opening presentation for the May gathering of the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers in Anchorage.

This hour-long segment, produced by KSKA in Anchorage as part of their Addressing Alaskans series, also includes Alaska Native leaders Rosemary Ahtuangaruak and Larry Merculieff speaking on the topic of Alaska Native history, and the sacred feminine.

Rita Pitka Blumenstein, a Yup’ik elder originally from Nelson Island, hosted this international gathering as one of the 13 grandmothers of the council. The gathering attracted a diverse audience of people from around the world, and was organized around Grandmother Rita’s theme- Healing the Spirit from the Light Within.
