Both the Scammon Bay girls and boys basketball teams hoisted trophies on their home court Saturday. They boys beat Unalakleet 61-51 and the girls narrowly escaped Chevak 35-33.
The Scammon Bay boy’s leading scorer was Chance Hunter, with 19 points, his teammate, Elliot Kaganak scored 10 points and was named the tournament MVP.
The Scammon bay girls had two leading scorers, Shannon Sundown and Marriana Ulak with eight points a piece. Sundown was also named the tournament MVP.
The tournament included many 1A and 2A Lower Yukon teams, including Hooper Bay, Chevak, Unalakleet, Scammon Bay, Toksook Bay, Aniak, St. Mary’s and Golovin.
Hooper bay and Unalakleet came in third for the boys and girls respectively.
On the boys all-tournament team are Scott Kaganak of Scammon Bay, Chance Hunter of Scammon Bay, Stuart Towarak of Unalakleet, Harry Morgan of Aniak and John Peterson of Golovin.
On the Girls all tournament team are Marianna Ulak of Scammon Bay, Maggie Beans of St. Mary’s, Ida Nash of Chevak, Jonisha Wilson of Unalakleet and Ashley Hale of Hooper Bay.
