Search and rescue teams are looking for a four-year-old boy in Kotlik after he went missing Monday night. Troopers say the child was out playing with a friend. When he didn’t come home, his parents contacted police, who launched a search in the village.

Trooper spokesperson Megan Peter says that search expanded greatly on Tuesday.

“We’ve brought in troopers from Emmonak, Bethel, Anchorage, and St. Marys to help. We’re using air assets to see if we can see anything from the air. Search and rescue dogs have been brought in–three from Anchorage–to see if we can potentially find an area this child might be in,” said Peters.

Peters says there have been no leads on where the boy may have gone.

“They are now attempting to look in the slough and river, dragging it to see if the child ended up in the water somewhere,” said Peters.

Kotlik is located on the banks of Kotlik Slough, about 35 miles northeast of Emmonak.

Anyone with information should contact the troopers.
