Pitka and Raymond Marth of Marshall had been traveling the trail to Marshall from Akiachak when they became lost and feared running out of fuel. The duo travelling on separate snowmachines split up sometime on Wednesday.

Then Marsh reportedly showed up on foot in Kalskag on Sunday with no injuries.

Marth said he traveled eastward toward Russian Mission and his snowmachine ran out of gas early Friday morning. He then started to walk toward the lights of Kalskag.

BSAR found Pitka’s snowmachine on the Nunapitchuk Wood Trail to the Yukon River near Ohagamiut on Wednesday.

Marth’s snowmachine was then found about 15.5 miles northwest of Kalskag.

Pitka’s body was turned over to Alaska State Troopers.
