Why is sports fishing still allowed on some of the Kuskokwim River’s tributaries? That was one main question at Friday’s Kuskokwim River Salmon Management Working Group meeting. There, a 12-day rolling closure was announced for subsistence salmon fishing on the river. Working group members then tried to get managers to close all sports fishing as well, but they refused.

The State has not made any official changes yet, although they stated on a live radio
show Monday that they intend to close all sports fishing on Friday.
