State speaks out on Akiachak vs Salazar ruling

The recent ruling in Akiachak vs Salazar found that the Secretary of Interior has the authority to take land into trust for Alaska tribes and can not treat tribes here differently than in the lower 48. The ruling has left state officials with a lot of legal uncertainty. Michael Geraghty, the state’s Attorney General, spoke with APRN’s Lori Townsend, and said the decision was a disappointment that creates a big question mark.

Geraghty says the case could eventually reach the U.S. Supreme Court.
