On Friday, a judge sentenced 24-year-old Colten Zaukar, of Sleetmute to spend what could be rest of his life behind bars for a violent 2012 rape. Bethel Superior Court Judge Charles Ray sentenced Zaukar to 61 years, with another 10 years suspended.

Johnnie Qaluvialler Evan of Tuntutuliak won the Akiak Dash in Bethel Saturday evening.  Evan topped thirteen other  teams competing in the region’s premier sprint race by maintaining a steady lead for the duration of the 65-mile course that runs from Bethel to Akiak and back .

The City of Bethel Planning Commission meets this evening (1/8) to consider a new subdivision wrapping around Larson subdivision. The commission already gave conditional preliminary approval to the 82-lot proposal brought by resident Lyman Hoffman, who also serves in the Alaska Senate.

There was a burglary at the Kwethluk City Office over the Christmas holiday. Village Public Safety Officer, Max Olick, says a padlock was cut to enter the building and someone took a safe out of the office on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
