Friday, a storm flipped a Supercub airplane upside down on the Southwest Alaska tundra. That was after the a pilot had a rough landing at a remote airstrip. Andrew Swick with the National Transportation Safety Board says the crash landing happened about 60 miles south of Aniak.

The National Transportation Safety Board has finished its on-scene investigation into the crash that killed two Hageland Aviation pilots Tuesday. Derrick Cedars of Bethel and Greggory McGee from Anchorage died in Tuesday’s crash.

The Cessna 208 went down in a willow patch near Three Step Mountain, 30 miles southeast of Bethel. A post crash fire destroyed the airplane and burned nearby bushes.

The National Transportation Safety Board has sent an investigator to visit the scene of the plane crash that killed two pilots. KYUK’s Ben Matheson spoke with the investigator, Chris Shaver, when he arrived in Bethel.

Two pilots are dead after a fiery plane crash Tuesday night just outside Bethel. Alaska State Troopers have identified the pilots who were onboard the Hageland Cessna 208 Caravan as Derrick Cedars, 42 of Bethel and Greggory McGee, 46 of Anchorage. Ravn Alaska spokesperson Steve Smith confirms the downed plane was a Hageland training flight.
