Alaska State Troopers arrested a Sleetmute man Friday on a warrant for sexual abuse of a minor. Aniak-based Troopers arrested Sakar N. Zaukar of Sleetmute at his Housing Road residence around 3 p.m.

On Friday, a judge sentenced 24-year-old Colten Zaukar, of Sleetmute to spend what could be rest of his life behind bars for a violent 2012 rape. Bethel Superior Court Judge Charles Ray sentenced Zaukar to 61 years, with another 10 years suspended.

After concerns that they wouldn’t have enough volunteers to open this year, the Bethel Winter House broke out the sleeping mats and opened the doors for the first time this winter to welcome the homeless.

A jury in Bethel found 24-year-old Colten Zaukar guilty on 10 counts in a violent 2012 rape in Sleetmute. Zaukar was found guilty on several sexual assault charges, kidnapping and assault. The jury found him not guilty of attempted murder and one sexual assault charge.
