A two-year-old boy was found dead in a creek in St. Mary’s Saturday. The boy’s mother reported to Alaska State Troopers the boy was missing Saturday afternoon.

Several Y-K Delta athletes have been named to the 1A all state tournament basketball team following their performance at last month’s tournament.

Four Y-K Delta boys were selected. Fabian Akerelrea of the second place Scammon Bay Eagles was named to the team, along with teammates Angel Medina and Isaiah Pitka. Fritz Jackson of the Akiachak Huskies also was named to the squad.

The Superintendent of the St. Mary’s School District is the 2015 Alaska Superintendent of the Year. The Alaska Superintendent’s Association selected Dr. David Herbert for the honor.

A St. Marys man died Saturday in an ATV accident. Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters says 27-year-old Joe Bryan Joe was deceased at the scene. At about 5 a.m. Saturday morning, a village police office got word that an ATV had crashed about three miles outside town near the confluence of the confluence of the Andreafsky and Yukon Rivers.

Two pilots are dead after a fiery plane crash Tuesday night just outside Bethel. Alaska State Troopers have identified the pilots who were onboard the Hageland Cessna 208 Caravan as Derrick Cedars, 42 of Bethel and Greggory McGee, 46 of Anchorage. Ravn Alaska spokesperson Steve Smith confirms the downed plane was a Hageland training flight.
