After resting four to five hours in the Nikolai checkpoint, 241 miles into the race, the front 15 teams once again hit the trail. That included Pete Kaiser of Bethel who left there in 10th place at 3:14 p.m. Kaiser has maintained that 10th place most of the day.
Michael Williams Jr. of Akiak moved up this afternoon, checking into Nikolai in 29th place. This morning, he was running in 41st place.
His father, Mike Williams Sr. of Akiak was running in 39th place this afternoon.
And Richie Diehl of Aniak moved up today. He was running in 46th place this afternoon, up from his 65th place start.
Sixty-five teams started the race Sunday.
Aaron Burmeister is leading the pack followed by Aliy Zirkle, Lance Mackey, Mitch Seavey, and Paul Gebhardt.
