A teenager was found deceased Thursday morning in Bethel. She is 16-years-old from Bethel but police are not releasing her name yet.
Police received a call Thursday at 8:20 a.m. about a female who was unresponsive. She was found inside a heated building located at 1910 State Highway.
Police and medics responded to the scene where they pronounced the girl deceased. There were no obvious signs of trauma.
At this point, police do not know whether it is a criminal case or an accidental death. Lt. Andre Achee says whenever there is an unattended death, the department takes it extremely seriously and they are doing everything they can to establish the cause of death.
The girl’s body has been sent into the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage. Police expect to get more information from them on Monday.
The girl’s next of kin has been notified.
