Allanivik Hotel Closes

Apr 15, 2016

The Allanivik Hotel is closing today after months of public unrest surrounding it’s revenue and plans for the hotel's  future.

The board of the Association of Village Council Presidents Regional Housing Authority has designated Mark Charlie as the organization’s new president and CEO.

“I look forward to working with every tribe and their tribal members and addressing their housing needs. And I want to hear from them on what we’re doing and how we can improve,” Charlie said.

Charlie has worked with the Housing Authority for more than 20 years, beginning as Director of Housing Management in 1995, transitioning to Deputy Director, and then becoming Chief Financial Officer.

A new laundromat is being constructed in Bethel. The Swanson’s Quick Food Center, better known as Q2, broke ground on the new addition last fall and expects to open to the public June 1.

The laundromat holds six standard washers and dryers along with one super washer and dryer for bulk items like blankets and sleeping bags. Cliff Linderoth, facilities manager, says the machines are quarter operated with a quarter dispenser available in the laundry area.

The price per load, Linderoth says, is still being worked out.
