After turning in second place finishes for two years, the Bethel Warriors took first at the 1-2-3A State Wrestling Championships this weekend at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage. The victory marks Bethel’s seventh state championship title and sets a new record for Alaska’s small schools. The team scored 264.5 points, 18.5 points more than defending champion Homer High School. KYUK went to Bethel High School on Monday to talk with the champions following their win.


K300 Announces Their First Sled Dog Race of The Season

The Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee has announced a sled dog race over the weekend with an increased purse.

Bethel Runs First Dog Race Of The Season

Bethel’s first sled-dog race of the season kicked off this past weekend. The race was put on by the Bethel Sprint Club.

Over the weekend, the Bethel Warriors placed second in the Glenallen Invitational Wrestling Tournament, which is the last tournament of the regular season. Individual Warriors also received firsts and honors in their weight classes.

The first sled dog race of the season in Bethel is less than two weeks away. The Bethel Sprint Club's season opener is December 10 and 11 and starts at 1 p.m. both days. The trail runs 12 to 14 miles and starts on the river in front of Bethel. The race holds a $8,000 purse and has no dog limit.

Mushers Begin Signing Up For K300

The Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee says that 13 mushers have already signed up to participate in the January race as the area takes on a nostalgic chill, allowing trails to be marked further and further out.

The Bethel Varsity Warriors placed fourth in the 2016 Lancer Smith Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Palmer this weekend. More than 700 wrestlers competed across all divisions in the premier wrestling event.
