The State of Our Salmon Special Convention to Air Statewide on 360North

by Mike Martz on December 31, 2012

The AVCP Special Convention:  The State of Our Salmon will air statewide on KTOO’s 360North channel on Thursday January 10th and Friday January 11th from 8am to 4:30PM.

Tune in to this gavel to gavel presentation of a special convention organized in March 2012 by the Association of Village Presidents in response to the steady decline in salmon returns to the Kuskokwim watershed and the impacts these declines have had on subsistence fishing and the subsistence way of life practiced by the Yup’ik people of the region.    The convention was held in Bethel on March 7th, 8th and 9th, 2012.   Participants included Yup’ik elders, subsistence fishers, fisheries scientists, biologists from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Canadian indigenous resource specialists. A live webcast of the event was produced by KYUK-TV.

The Association of Village Council Presidents is a regional nonprofit organization that provides social services, land and natural resource protection and economic development for the 56 villages in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta region.

360 North is a statewide television service provided by public station KTOO-TV in Juneau to bring programs of interest to Alaskans statewide.

360 North can be seen locally in Bethel on KYUK channel 15.3 or on GCI cable channel 15.
