A month long string of thievery has ended with a possible culprit identified.
It all started during the Fourth of July activities here in Bethel. According to Troopers, a family came to Bethel to shop, after parking their boat tied up to the seawall. They went to head home when they found that their boat had been stolen.
Meanwhile, upriver in Akiachak, a few days later, John Moses discovered that his fish camp had been burglarized. It’s located two miles upriver from Akiachak. Moses reported that two guns were taken along with other gear.
The Tuluksak police were made aware of the burglary and the items taken, when they noticed 33-year old Craig Kashatok in possession of items matching those stolen from Moses’ fish camp.
On further investigation, Troopers say, Kashatok was using the boat that was stolen from the Bethel seawall earlier this month.
Troopers say their case investigation is ongoing and that alcohol was not a factor.
