Pavila positioned to capture third Bogus 150 title
Two-time Bogus Champions Lewis Pavila leads the pack towards Bethel finish.
Early Saturday morning, three mushers have separated themselves on the tail end of the Bogus Creek 150. Lewis Pavilla was the first musher through the Tuluksak checkpoint at around 5:40 a.m. He dropped one dog quickly and was out of the chute within minutes. More than 20 minutes behind him, Jacki Larson, came into the checkpoint trying to make up time.
His team was in good spirits and rolled out within two minutes. Coming in third was Steve Olive. Olive was eager to see if he had made up any time on the two leaders since leaving Bogus Creek, but was unfortunately disappointed . He spent some time snacking his dogs before he shoved off down the trail, eager to make up ground. Rounding out the top four is defending champion Jen Peeks. She dropped one dog, but has a some time to make up as she is nearly an hour off first place’s pace.
