Quinhagak resident Timothy Beebe Sr., age 41, caught the first King salmon of the season around 1 p.m. today while he was test net fishing, he says.

“I didn’t catch any other fish, just the King salmon,” Beebe Sr. said. “It’s about 20-21 inches long and weighs about five pounds.”

Beebe says they usually plain boil the first catches and savor each bite. First catches are always given away as well.

This first King of the season came about three days after last year’s first King. Last year, Timothy Matthew of Quinhagak caught the first King on May 31.
